In 2006 Simon had the enormous pleasure of studying with legendary drummer Joe Morello in the USA. One of history's most accomplished musicians, Joe passed on his invaluable insights and theories into the art of drumming and life as a musician making this period the unforgettable high point of Simon's musical career to date.
As drummer for Australian bands Scarecrow Tiggy and Zaibatsu Simon toured and recorded along the way supporting acts such as Atari Teenage Riot | (Germany) | Secret Chiefs III (USA) | Brutal Truth (USA) | Dirty Three (Australia) and The Mavis's (Australia) among others. As a solo performer, Simon opened for Japanese artist KK Null on his 1999 Australian tour and has performed solo in Europe as Lug with a collection of sample trigger and acoustic percussion instruments in combination with a conventional drum kit.
While studying electronics, learning from his musical/engineering father and teaching himself some sound engineering skills, he began recording music seriously at home aged sixteen. Ten years later working from his studio Onomatopoeia in Melbourne, Australia, Simon had recorded over a dozen CDs for various artists ranging from acoustic guitar and voice through to totally electronic, ambient and orchestral music. Additionally, Simon composed, recorded and mixed no less than nine films there including the award winning Hurt (best Film Concept), First Love (best Achievement in sound Post-Production) and the mad, spoof sci-fi Dawn of the DMF's. Simon also collaborated with internationally renowned artist Dominic Ryan for his documentary film about Kosovo, Tell The World.
Since leaving Australia in April 2000 with the desire to become a better musician and sound engineer, Simon has played and recorded throughout Europe and America and contributed both musically and technically to over fifty British, Canadian and Dutch radio documentaries, two German theater plays, engineered, sung and played percussion on many albums as well as projects for BMW, MINI international, Mercedes Benz, Ford and mixed live concerts and created music soundtracks for seven successful international films including Muxmaeuschenstill | Quiet as a Mouse (German site).
